Little Fargo glanced up through the cold, steel bars of his cage. Our eyes met; his were a
sea of blue, brimming with desperation. His fur looked softer that clouds in July, and his little paws looked as though they had been dipped in sweet chocolate. He cried out to me with a heart-rending meow, his chocolate paws poking and prodding through the narrow prison bars. My spine softened… legs buckled… and it was all I could to look at Spencer with a straight face and say “No… we can’t… please don’t ask”.
While waiting for the store clerk (we were there to get worms for Raymond), I aimlessly strolled through the pet store, with my hopeful twelve year old quick on my heels. I delivered one perfectly reasonable explanation after another as to why we did not need another critter in the house. We were there to get worms for Raymond… in and out… that’s it! But, in true Spencer fashion, with each explanation I threw out there, he was good and ready with his swift and crafty catcher’s mitt. And let’s face it, I’m shamefully spineless. *sigh*
Needless to say… we got the worms for Raymond… and the kitty with the chocolate paws. *sigh* I couldn’t help myself!
Cookie is finally warming up to the idea of sharing her space with an impostor, but I can assure you… she wasn’t whistling Dixie when Fargo first came lumbering into her world. She is normally such an easy going little kitty-girl… it was quite a shock to know that she has a down-right ugly and vile side to her otherwise polite and loving demeanour! The first few nights were trying, to say the least. I drifted off to sleep somewhere in the middle of the night to the tune of “hiss, growl, wail, hiss, growl, moan, hiss!!!” It was endless… I was secretly hoping she’d lose her voice, just so we could get some sleep. But alas, this morning I witnessed progress. The old-timer and the new-comer were so intrigued by the ‘red dot’ darting about the carpet that neither realized they were almost touching noses. Progress indeed.
Clyde hasn’t put up much of a fuss about the kitten, but he has been especially sucky. Unfortunately, Fargo’s fascination with “chase the bunny” has not been well received by Clyde, who much prefers the game of “ignore the kitten” by retreating to my lap, tucking his little face under my arm. No worries though; nothing time and a few more squirts of the water bottle won’t fix. Fargo is slowly figuring it out. (I can almost hear Clyde snickering under his bunny-breath each time Fargo gets it.) lol
Raymond isn’t bothered in the slightest. Once he realized that the kitten wasn’t going to eat him, he continued on with his normal routine of exploring and tasting everything in site, including the kitty. He even curled up against Fargo’s silky (warm) fur the other day and hunkered down for a little cat-nap. Aww.
At one point (during the hissing and growling and snarling stage), I wondered if perhaps I allowed my impulse to impair my better judgement. (Imagine that… gasp!). But then, while sitting on the floor last night, I noticed that guards were slowly but surely starting to crumble, as the critters gathered and circled around me and Spencer. They climbed and pounced over our legs, chased and chewed their fuzzy mice, brushed up against us with affection, and generally found a way to tolerate one another within the same small space… and I couldn’t help but smile from the inside out. In their own way, our babies were sorting it out.
Who needs political leaders to agonize over the many challenges of world peace (and they’re doing such a fine job, aren’t they?)… please… I think my critters should run for office. :)
Wish I had a mom who was such a pushover when i was growing up :-) Be well,
J.
Here I am! Here I am! ~~franticaly waving arms~~
All is well.
I always say that there is nothing like a game of “chase the red dot” to really bring a family together! You know, reading this got me thinking of human nature, and community, and all that. I started thinking about the development of Nicaraguan Sign Language. It is kind of amazing what unlikely situations can achieve.
More importantly, you have a bunny too?!
Ciao Bella,
AWWWW, that is just too cute…. *feelings of happy fuzziness* I love her…. she is so so so cute….
I still do not have my baby yet, but we are planning on getting one soon. I can not wait…. but all comes to those who wait, as I was told when I was young ha ha ha, but I really am looking forward to having a baby of my own like yours…. she is just too sweet.
Thank you so much for the visit… it was really great to see you stop in.
Hope that you are having a great day….
Hugs & Kisses
AND…. Big hugs and kisses to the new baby there…
God Bless

Hi!
Long time no see. It looks like you have a Hymmie…I LOVE them, hence I have 2, well 3 right now I’m kitty sitting
I couldn’t have walked out the store without the kitten either, my heart wouldn’t have made it, this why I avoid pet stores.
I hope you are well my dear friend.
(((Hugs)))
Cindy
B and I really want a kitten and your post is NOT helping! It’s a good think I don’t have a sweet faced child like your Spencer or I would be running a zoo right now. I have NO willpower when it comes to animals. Glad your critters are all getting along. I wish I lived closer so I could just come over and play with your new little one!
WR
Hello! Your kitty is beautiful! I don’t blame you for giving in!
Your pics made me warm and fuzzy, I really needed that, I’m a bit down today.
Have a great day friend!!
uh huh, it starts with just a cat, then a kitten, then a bearded dragon …ok, you dont normally hear about bearded dragons but you get my drift…then it progresses to a dog….then a bird….next thing you know its the Funky White Zoo! get me an admission ticket early!!
Take care girlfriend
Aw, I love the choice of name for your new chocolate pawed kitten … cookie … that’s just awesome! :-)
Sorry I’ve not been around but it’s been a busy/hectic time around my place with this school year ending and the boss heading out to participate in a 2 week sail boating race.
I had to put in another complaint this weekend about the pot smoking neighbours downstairs … it wasn’t even 1:30 on Saturday and I’d already gotten nailed with the smell 3 times from the time I’d woken up at 10:00. Yesterday wasn’t much better either but seeing as the apartment office is closed on weekends I didn’t expect anything to be done by then anyways. I have to pick up tokens tonight for the laundry room so will be able to speak with the apartment manager then about it all. I’ll not be impressed if he tries to pull the “not much we can do” line on me with this seeing as it IS illegal .. hell, I know eviction is an option with this, come on! Hmph! Eek, don’t get me started, missy .. it’s Monday, no need to help the frustration of this day. ;-)
Oh, the 3 days of eating cherries was because they are in season so are in the stores and I ♥Love♥ them … I was careful the first day about them and when there was no reaction on the second day to them I thought I was safe to eat the same amount each day. HA! Me be funny lady. :-P
♥Hugs♥ to you and I hope your week goes well. :-)
Hmmm, seems I had a blonde moment and the kittens name is Fargo … kick me, I can’t help but think Cookie suits it more because of the chocolate paws … catch me first, tho, then you can kick me for it. :-P ♥
I read your last blog on myspace and wanted to say that I loved loved loved Shrek III and LMAO the whole movie. Sounds like JACK was a thrill to talk to. Sounds like you had a joyful time.
g.j.
Yvonne – so you just had to jump ship from Spaces. Not that I can blame you … too much. ;-)
I haven’t much time or inspiration to do writing lately. Maybe that’ll change as summer progresses and mojitos flow more frequently.
Hope you’re doing well and raising hell with the guys in your neck of the woods.
Cheers,
BH
No way CATS could keep the peace. They are a bunch of trouble makers. DOGS however…
I think that you may onto something with the squirt bottle. If we could get our hands on like, uh I don’t know, 2 million of them and ship them out to the middle east, we may just have a chance.
“Death to the infidels!”
(squirt squirt)
“Stop it infidel!”
(squirt squirt)
“Hey, that’s annoying”
(squirt squirt)
“Fine, I’ll stop. Put that thing away will ya?”
Just wanted to drop by one last time before we leave. I hope you have a fantastic summer. I’ll be back around July 21st or so. Will have much catching up to do!
Wow you are running a zoo Yvonne! I wish I had patience enough for all those animals… heck I barely can manage my kids.. hehe. This entry made me feel all warm and fuzzy and made me wanna snuggle with my kitty. A bearded dragon?!? That picture cracked me up something fierce too. Spence is blessed to have a mom like you that’s one thing i know.. This comment does not make much sense, but it’s early and I haven’t had my caffience just yet so don’t pay attention to me. Have a good day my friend.
Yeah. That’s how it happened with both of my kitties, too. It’s just too dang hard to resist!! I don’t go to the pet store anymore. Walmart (unfortunately) has everything I need, and the only thing they have there to adopt is fish…and as much as my kitties would appreciate me bringing one of those home, I’m not even tempted.
Have fun with your new fur baby!
God bless :)
LUUUCKKY! Fargo is very, very handsome!! What fun it must be to have Clyde, Fargo, Raymond, Cookie and am I missing anyone? Wishing you lots of lovely adventures with everyone!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yvonne!
The pictures are all priceless but I particularly like the ones of Spencer with Fargo and Raymond with Fargo. Also loved your telling of the tale…or should that be tail…lol. I think you are very blessed with how quickly Cookie is adapting to Fargo…for two reasons:
Unrelated females and males often have problems adapting to one another. From my own experience, it was better that Buttons (female), was born at home and my two male kitties adjusted to her quickly and lovingly. That Fargo is a kitten seems to make a difference…and that is so cool. OK…let’s give Cookie and Raymond credit too!!
Thanks for making my day and giving me a huge warm and fuzzy grin! Love and hugs!
Beth
We silly humans like to believe there is free choice in these matters? Truth is, there is no defense against the Little Fargo’s of this world. You were a goner the moment he dropped his love bomb. Glad everyone is getting along, though. Most intelligent critters will avoid war if given the chance.
Wow, Yvonne, your place must be getting crowded there!! Fargo is very very cute, and I like the name too! Is he a siamese? Those photos are adorable!
Hope you are having a great weekend!
OMG… the wee one is ADORABLE!!!! Siemese to boot!!! I love siemese cats!!!! Ohhhhhhhhh… what a great little story and menagerie you are aquiring there!!! What a beautiful addition to your household!
Just stoping in to wish you a fabulous summer and I am certain I will be seeing you on facebook!
Ciao bella,
KC
Hi Yvonne
G’day cheeky how are you? Well I hope. I won’t say good because I doubt if you could ever be good lol.
Just wanted to drop by quickly, I’m trying to catch up on some comments, and I wanted to say g’day stranger, and also to say I hope you enjoy your Sunday. I hope you have a good one.
Take care Ainger girl.
Cya later Ash.
Ciao Bella,
Just stopping into wish you a great week.
Hope all is well with your new family addition there, ha ha ha, he is really too cute…
Wishing you a great week ahead as well.
Take Care my dear friend….
God Bless You

I’m here .. I finally made it!! I had been hoping to get in before this but felt like complete poop on Friday night and yesterday. Got this horrible headache on Friday night that sat across the front of my forhead but also across the back of my neck … ugh! It showed up again on Saturday too ~ dam thing! Thankfully it’s gone today! Woot!! :-)
Thought I’d pop in and ramble off an update on my life so you can drop in and ramble off an update on yours. ;-) A space visitor must do what a space visitor must do, dontcha know. :-P
Things seem to be getting better with the renters downstairs. They still do the potty thing but it’s only like once every other day (sometimes they even make sure we aren’t home before they do it |:-0). If it stays like that then I’ll be happy. :-)
Football practice with my boy was great this week. I posted some pictures to show him off during the practice. I can’t wait till they get suited up (supposed to be mid july) as it’ll make it that much more exciting. :-) He’s getting reminded that he’s not much of a runner but he’s got the strength and the power already so he just needs to get off his duff and work on moving himself around more so his body gets more speed within it.
Ok, enough of my rambling here. :-) I hope you have been having a great weekend and you have an even better week! Talk with you soon again, honey-punkin! ♥Hugs♥ :-)
Hola Funkatola! Just stopped in to shake the funky tree!
Take care missy.
Me and boyfriend Hank say “Awww” though we are wondering just who Raymond is, seeing as he eats worms — we’ll have to check the footnotes.
What an absolute cutie Fargo is! Loved this story…it almost (and I did say almost) makes me want a kitten.
Hugs,
Vicki
Pushover! LOL. He looks an awful lot like my Smokin’ Joe and I couldn’t resist either. Spencer’s a smart guy for knowing what you need even better than you do yourself. Hope you’re doing well my little friend…I seem to be stuck in the ebay blogs and haven’t made it back to my livespace in ages! Good luck to you!
Nice Cats :)
